The length and quality of the course is just perfect. I personally loved the Bonus section - very crisp. Apart from that it is hard to pick as it was beyond my expectation and it truly lived up to its title. The section that I struggled with was Business Glossary , Data Dictionary and Data Catalog. The concept was well explained, but I missed a bit of visual representation of how these 3 hold together . Overall I would say it is a great course and would highly recommend it.

It was difficult to find a course on data governance, so I was very happy I found George Firican on YouTube. I enrolled in his courses immediately. The course was a good cadence. I enjoy all of your videos. It was nice to get a preview of the maturity models that are in use out there; however, I was hoping that the "Performing the Assessment" would have had more content....but also know that this may be difficult.

I took the 'Data Governance Maturity Model' course from LightsOnData to brush up on Data Governance topics since I had been more focused on the Data Quality side for a couple of years. I also wanted to see what I might have been missing, given that there are a large number of models out there. Maturity Models are back in fashion - if you are a consultant - your clients will expect you to have one to recommend or use during an engagement. If you are a client - you are going to be 'sold' one - so you might as well get an overview of what’s out there. You likely can't spend time researching all of the Maturity Models, and you certainly won't do that research on your own for better value than the $250 price of this course. George Firican has a relaxed teaching style the suits the content, and you can tell he knows what he is talking about. He inserts a little humor but not so much as to make it comical. This is refreshing because there's a lot of fluff out there right now in training by people who like to make a lot of noise but don't have much substance to bring beyond catchphrases. George starts with the origins of Maturity Models and why there are scores of them now used in various industries and disciplines. He then dives into eight models that have a specific focus on Data Governance. George doesn’t try to push one model over the other. He even admits and provides backup as to why Maturity Models are hardly scientific, are subjective, and can be very similar. Instead, he spends the later lessons explaining how you might choose one, tips on using them to assess your organization, and considerations for benchmarking. I took away that none of them are 'bad.' Model selection might be more a factor of whether you are going to use them yourself or whether you are choosing a consultant who only uses that model. Either way, you get plenty in the overview course to be dangerous. Finally, George provides a good set of links throughout the course if you want to delve further. Based on taking this course, I have also purchased the Business Glossary course from Lights on Data. It's next up on my weekend learning agenda.

At present time this lesson is outside of my scope of work, but it was very informative as I have always heard about maturity models but didn't know there were so many and how they differed. I will definitely be keeping these lessons in mind when and if I am involved in these discussions in my organization. Loved how thorough and informative these lessons were. Thanks Again.

In my first two weeks in my new role as a Data Management Executive, I've used the course's basic concepts, metrics & KPIs, and tools deployment & selection lessons in shaping our roadmap towards becoming an insight-driven organization. This course was excellent, 5 stars! I feel like I have walked away with a really solid understanding of what DG is, why it is important and the value it can add. I now have a broad understanding of what a program can entail and how to get started. The lessons on managing change and people were unexpected but I believe possibly the most valuable part of this course and can be applied to any topic, not just data governance. I loved this course, because it is different than the theoretical courses that assume all would go okay according to the plan. George did a wonderful work explaining what can go wrong and why in every step, with the reasons and actions to take. I wish there were a few use cases or examples of datasets showing how the assessment or implementation can be done, but overall I am very satisfied and would recommend it to everyone. In addition to being a data governance training, this program also covers project management and change management.

My biggest struggle was trying to get the Business Glossary off the ground after pausing the efforts on it several times in the past 6 months. There were too many factors to consider and we didn't want to just launch a "good enough" tool.I took the "in-person" version of this course and it has changed everything for me. It provided me with the clear steps that I needed to take in order to see this project through and the guidelines and best practices needed to ensure the content of the glossary is great and that our colleagues are using it.I would recommend the Business Glossary course, because it includes everything you need to build, launch and maintain a Business Glossary or enhance the one that you have. Plus a lot of great know-how on how it fits in with a data dictionary and a data catalog.

I am so glad that I found this course from George's videos on Youtube. The content was excellent and the perfect amount of time for each module. This course covers everything you need to know in order to get started and set up your data governance program. The courses were detailed enough, and I found the total length of this course to be just right. I took notes on every video and now have my own written handbook/quick reference guide. George delivers high quality material, information, and explanations. I loved the explanation of the operating model, doing the ad-hoc assessment, and how all of that ties in to building your strategy, TOR, and scope documents. He also helped make Principles, Policies, and Standards practical and tangible for me. I've already used some learnings to guide my customers on best practices, and can be more prescriptive in my guidance. I also have this course to point them to in order to learn more. I would recommend this course to anyone who is familiar with the theory, but needs to get the ball rolling and wants to know where to actually start, and what specifically to do.

Good course to learn about the different maturity models. I would have appreciate a deeper lesson on the assessment part (more details on how to structure the collection of info…). The model part is extensive, the using part is less deep in details and I would have appreciate more guidance toward that actionable part, on how to transform the result of an maturity model into an action plan. But don’t get me wrong, it is still great, thanks a lot!

Very helpful and hands on oriented

This course exceeded my expectations. It covered a great deal of topics, especially the ones related to Accessibility and Cognition. Sometimes it is difficult to negotiate with an organization's data analysts and designers when we want to integrate best practices in UX and Inclusive Design. This course covered the basics of intention and goal when choosing a suitable visualization. The presenters were all very well-spoken and interesting, and they all provided excellent examples. The course helped me create documentation for our organization around best practices on choosing and using different types of charts and graphs. My notes on UX and Accessibility in particular were beefed up by the knowledge and resources provided in this course. I would definitely (and already have) recommend this course to others, especially UX designers, UX researchers and anyone working in the field of Accessibility and Inclusive design. I feel that this course was great on the level of implementation.In some cases, it did feel as though we were just receiving a number of bullet points as opposed to fully fleshed-out concepts, but this might be my view only because I am completely new to this field.Very detailed course and helpful templates!

I was basically thrown into a position where my team was given the task of helping our client at the VA to stand up data governance at the enterprise level. You can read as many books as you want, pass as many certification exams, etc, but that by no means makes you an expert. Having someone break down things that could work, things that have caused failure, and learning points put a good spin on the information.
